Typography saves lives!!!

People are laughing about the $27.6 million dollar project to change all the street signs of NYC (and really, it does sound ridiculous). However, let me just emphasize the fact that typography actually matters. They have proven that the street signs make a difference in decreasing accidents and as a graphic designer, it doesn’t surprise me one bit that the change of fonts make a difference. Especially in the world we live in today, visual communication is the most important type of communication there is. Our lives speed by and we have one millisecond to see a sign and make heads or tails of it. Without clear visual communication, our society really cannot exist. So while I have a huge list of other pressing issues that $27.5 million dollars can make a great impact on, I’m proud of NYC for trying to make a difference in how they communicate!
